【エリザベス・ペイトンについて】

1993年に伝説的なチェルシーホテル828号室での個展で発表された、ナポレオンやマリー・アントワネットなどを描いた歴史的肖像画のシリーズで一躍脚光を浴びた現代アーティストのエリザベス・ペイトンは（Elizabeth Peyton）、歴史的人物の肖像画を描く一方で友人やロックスター、俳優など、雑誌からの切り抜きやスナップ写真を素材に、現代のポップアイコンをグラマラスで自由なタッチで描き続けている肖像画家です。現代アートの寵児ともいわれ、セレブからも人気が高い彼女のオリジナル作品は、現在非常に困難と言われています。

【エリザベス・ペイトン 作品について】

例えば、バンド「パルプ」のボーカル、ジャーヴィス・コッカー（Jarvis Cocker）を描いたポートレート作品『Jarvis（1996年）』は、線が細く飄々としているジャーヴィス・コッカーの特徴を上手くとらえており、数々の著名人のポートレートを発表し続けているエリザベス・ペイトンの作品の中でも群を抜いた作品です。
