【エリザベス・ペイトンについて】

1993年に伝説的なチェルシーホテル828号室での個展で発表された、ナポレオンやマリー・アントワネットなどを描いた歴史的肖像画のシリーズで一躍脚光を浴びた現代アーティストのエリザベス・ペイトンは（Elizabeth Peyton）、歴史的人物の肖像画を描く一方で友人やロックスター、俳優など、雑誌からの切り抜きやスナップ写真を素材に、現代のポップアイコンをグラマラスで自由なタッチで描き続けている肖像画家です。現代アートの寵児ともいわれ、セレブからも人気が高い彼女のオリジナル作品は、現在非常に困難と言われています。

【作品について】

ラフ画のような独特のタッチが見事なまでにモデルの特徴をとらえているエリザベス・ペイトンのポートレート作品の中に、自分がお気に入りのミュージシャンや俳優がモデルのものを見つけた人も多いでしょう。例えば、バンド「パルプ」のボーカル、ジャーヴィス・コッカー（Jarvis Cocker）を描いたポートレート作品『Jarvis（1996年）』は、線が細く飄々としているジャーヴィス・コッカーの特徴を上手くとらえており、数々の著名人のポートレートを発表し続けているエリザベス・ペイトンの作品の中でも群を抜いた作品ですが、元々パルプ好き、特にボーカルのジャーヴィス・コッカー（Jarvis Cocker）が好きな人にとっては、この作品を見た時の感激はひとしおです（つまり、私です）。

ラムフロム・ザ・コンセプトストア（lammfromm The Concept Store）では現在、詩人、小説家、シンガーソングライターと、様々な顔を持つレナード・コーエン（Leonard Norman Cohen）を描いたエリザベス・ペイトン作品をモチーフにデザインされたTシャツ「LEONARD COHEN Tシャツ」や、アーティストを援助するアメリカのNPO団体「Art Production Fund（アート・プロダクション基金）」製作の、セックス・ピストルズのベーシスト「シド・ヴィシャス」を描いた作品がモチーフのWOWビーチタオルを販売中です。
